Music Dome

This music pavilion in the Haarlemmerhout is one of Octatube's earliest design & build projects. It was glazed in 1984, re-glazed in 2004 and renovated in 2021.

Ten columns support the 9-meter-diameter dome. The design is based on the principle of a geodesic dome: a three-frequency icosahedron. White aluminum rods and spheres form the structure. The triangular glass panels are imposed on aluminum OT profiles and fastened with aluminum screw strips. The design was awarded the first Dutch Aluminum Award in 1986.

In 2004, we replaced the original laminated, un-tempered glass with laminated, fully tempered glass. And instead of bringing back the original white cover strips, we have now applied sealant joints in combination with clamping plates. This emphasizes the crystal-like appearance of the dome.

In 2021, the Octatube Services team restored the dome to its former glory by thoroughly cleaning the entire structure and replacing broken glass panels. Some of the glass fixings were recoated and then reinstalled. The high-quality materials were thus reused. In doing so, Octatube Servicse extended the life of the materials and of the building.
