National Steel Award 2012

The 'Bicycle Apple' at the train station of Alphen aan de Rijn has won the National Steel Award 2012 in the category utility. In collaboration with the architectural office KuiperCompagnons, Octatube has made the (technical) design. In the end, the structure has been built by a third party.

The project is part of the redevelopment of the train station Alphen aan de Rijn (2010), where Octatube has also realised glass elevators, balustrades and curtain wall facades at the staircases and bicycle parking (for more information, click here). On the website of KuiperCompagnons, you can also read more about the project.

Every two years, the National Steel Award is organized by 'Bouwen met Staal' as a reward for inspiring applications of steel in the building industry. This year, projects of 2010 and 2011 were selected. Apart from the 'Bicycle Apple' 3 more projects of Octatube are part of the entries.

Herewith Octatube would like to congratulate KuiperCompagnons and all involved parties!
