Sustainability upgrade of iconic Teylers Museum facades completed
Octatube Services has renovated the glass facades of the Teylers Museum in Haarlem. Founded in 1784, the museum is the oldest public art and science museum in the Netherlands and is renowned for its rich collection and monumental architecture.
In 1995, we created the original glass fronts, which at the time featured load-bearing Lignostone columns—an innovative and remarkably lightweight solution for that era. After nearly thirty years, the museum wanted to upgrade the glazing to a higher insulation level, contributing to the building’s further sustainability. Our Services team replaced the glass panels on five facades and also installed a new internal glass frontage.
Where the original facades used rigid connections, articulated glass nodes were now chosen. These improve stress distribution within the glass and contribute to a more sustainable and future-proof facade system.
With the renovation completed, Teylers Museum can welcome visitors in a renewed, transparent, and energy-efficient environment. The reopening coincided with the opening of the exhibition Michelangelo and Men, which features top works from the collection.
The museum reopened with the exhibition Michelangelo and Men. More than twenty drawings from the Teylers Museum collection, along with prestigious international works including the marble sculpture Apollo-David, are on display.
